SUMMARY:Meeting with NYU Dental Students
DESCRIPTION:Join CCC staff for an hour’s conversation with the NYU School of Dentistry team in the large conference room at SCEC on April 10th.  These are the students who volunteer their time for the free dental clinic coordinated by Sunrise Opportunities each year in April.  For the past several years\, CCC staff and Work Group/Poverty Busters have met with the students and their global outreach administrator for an informal conversation during the clinic about the impact of their work in downeast Maine.  Once again\, we ask for your participation to help orient the dental team to the unique challenges and strengths of maintaining oral health in rural Maine\, while receiving feedback from the volunteers’ perspective that might surprise you.  Please RSVP to Christine if you are able to attend. \nThanks!

SUMMARY:Impacts of Trauma on Students & Families: Trauma 101
DESCRIPTION:This training\, presented by Julie Redding\, LCPC\, is designed for staff at all levels in Family Futures Downeast partner organizations featuring scenarios and content with a specific focus on Washington County early and higher education.  Participants will learn the definition of trauma and how it impacts a person\, including: \n\nToxic stress and the role of cortisol\nAdverse Childhood Experiences\nHow the brain is impacted by ACEs and toxic stress\nFactors that mitigate effects of ACES\, trauma\, and stress\nWhat it means to become Trauma Informed\n\nThis training is an introduction (101 version) to trauma and its impacts. Participants who are formal partners providing supports to the FFD program and have attended a trauma training led by Elin Mackinnon\, LCSW or Julie Redding\, LCPC\,  have already met the FFD training requirement for Trauma 101. Staff from other CCC partner organizations who find this relevant to their work are welcome to attend. The training will be held from 9 am to 12 noon at the Cobscook Community Learning Center. Contact hour certificates will be provided.  Registration is closed for this training.
