SUMMARY:Building Substance Use Informed Practices to Support Families and Students: Substance Use 101
DESCRIPTION:This training\, presented by Abby Frutchey\, LADC\, CCS\, is designed for staff at all levels in Family Futures Downeast partner organizations featuring scenarios and content with a specific focus on Washington County early and higher education. Participants will gain a rich understanding of the complexity of substance use disorders and its impacts on brain development and cognition.  Attendees will learn about the stages of change\, learning skills to support students and families as they navigate the behavior change process.  Participants will identify how to build substance use informed practices by breaking stigma\, exploring bias\, building resiliency\, and understanding recovery supports. \nThis training is an introduction (101 version) to substance use and its impacts. Participants who are formal partners providing supports to the FFD program and have attended a substance use training led by Marjorie Withers\, LCPC\,  have already met the FFD training requirement for Substance Use 101. Staff from other CCC partner organizations who find this relevant to their work are welcome to attend. The training will be held from 9 am to 12 noon in Science 102 at the University of Maine\, Machias\, with a remote connection from room 211 at Washington County Community College.  Registration is now closed for this training. \n
