Wabanaki Connections to Land and Water

January 28th, 12 pm, University of Maine, Machias in Torrey Hall, Room 221:  Please join us for the first spring talk in our Wabanaki Voices Series, “Wabanaki Connections to Land and Water” by Minquansis Sapiel. Zoom attendance is also available.  Minquansis is a published author of children’s Books (“Little People of the Dawn” and “Gluskabe: and the gift of the Maple trees”) received a Master’s degree in Social Work, and has earned her Captains license. Delivering Age-Positive Public Health Series

Every other Wednesday, January 28th through April  8th on Zoom, 3 – 4 pm: The Maine Council on Aging and Trust for America’s Health is offering a free training opportunity for public health leaders: TFAH will facilitate seven free 1-hour sessions over the course of 14 weeks to introduce participants to age-friendly public health concepts and the AFPHS 6Cs Framework as well as in-depth training on how public health practitioners can improve healthy aging practice including expanding networks, data collection, health assessments, and other key roles of public health with a view toward building capacity to support older adults and caregivers.  Register here.

EdGE Students “Discover STEM”

Maine Seacoast Mission is partnering with the MDI Biological Laboratory and Bar Harbor Bank & Trust to offer Washington County Discover STEM, a new multi-site science enrichment program at the EdGE after-school programs in Milbridge, Harrington, and Addison.  In December, Dr. Elisabeth Marnik, MDI Bio Lab’s Director of Science Education & Outreach, started leading a rotating series of hands-on STEM sessions at EdGE after-school sites. Cannabis in Clinical Care ECHO

The Project ECHO Team at Dartmouth Health invites you to join our newest ECHO: Cannabis in Clinical Care ECHO: Addressing the Spectrum of Use, February 4th through April 15th, every other Wednesday from 12 — 1 pm.  Changing state policies in the U.S. have made cannabis increasingly available for both recreational and therapeutic use.  As a result, healthcare clinicians must often engage with health issues related to cannabis, including informed decision-making when patients request certification for therapeutic use, identification of harmful misuse or cannabis use disorder, avoidance of cannabis-medication interactions, and management of side effects of cannabis use, among others.  This ECHO course will explore the changing societal context of cannabis use, the biologic properties of cannabis and its potential harms and benefits, and best practices in clinical management across the spectrum of cannabis-related health issues.  Details and registration here.  Download a flyer to share.
